Property Tax Information & FAQs

Real Estate Billing Process

The Town of Goffstown Tax Collector’s Office follows the rules and regulations set forth and governed by the State of NH. In compliance with the NH State Laws (RSA 76:2), the property tax year starts April 1 to March 31 of the following year.

Property taxes are billed semi-annually (RSA 76:15-a)

The first tax bill is mailed at the end of May/early June and due 30 days thereafter and is an estimated bill based on 50% of the prior year’s tax rate multiplied by the current assessed value as of April 1st of the current tax year. Following the due date, interest accrues at 8% per annum (RSA 76:13).

The second or final tax bill is mailed once the tax rate is set by the NH Department of revenue, typically by mid-October/early November, and due 30 days thereafter. Following the due date, interest accrues at 8% per annum (RSA 76:13).

The tax rate is issued by the NH Department of Revenue Administration in late October/November prior to the issuance of the second or final property tax bill.

The property tax in New Hampshire is the major source of revenue for local government. In Goffstown, your property tax pays for Goffstown municipal services, County of Hillsborough services, Goffstown School District services, and State Education services. The Town bills and collects taxes for all these entities even though the Select Board only collaborates with the NH Department of Revenue in setting the tax rate for the municipal portion of the bill. Other portions of the tax bill and rates are overseen by separate governing bodies. If you have questions about the budgets and services covered by your tax bill, the people to contact are:

  • Town of Goffstown Town Administrator at 603-497-8990
  • Goffstown School District Superintendent at 603-497-4818
  • Hillsborough County Administrator 603-627-5602
  • State of NH Department of Revenue Administration 603-271-2191
