[ARCHIVED] Food Scrap Diversion at Transfer Station

Food scrap slides for infovue Oct 2025

COMPOSTING COMES TO DPW: Did you know that food scraps make up an estimated 25% of the municipal waste stream that ends up in the landfill, costing us tens of thousands of dollars per year in landfilling fees? Or that nearly 40% of the national food supply ends up as waste?
While reduction is always the best solution, the next best thing is to get food scraps out of the waste stream. For those who can't compost in their backyards, the Transfer Station now has a food scrap drop-off barrel, serviced by our partners at Renewal Compost. It is located near the household trash building and book/clothing bins. All food scraps can be composted, including dairy and meat.
And stay tuned for more food scrap composting news as we begin to work with our friends at the Goffstown School Distric food services.
